Book Recommendations
I thought that those of you who weren’t able to make it to A Seat at the Table – Emerging Women East Coast Gathering 2006 might like a few non-fiction book recommendations. 
Tauziya Kassindja’s Do They Hear You When You Cry tells the story of Tauziya’s flight from Africa to the U.S. to avoid female genital mutilation. She ends up being locked in a series of U.S. prisons for over a year while the government decides what to do with her case (she immigrated illegally, mostly out of a lack of knowledge of how the “system” works).
Mary Keenan’s MOLLY Child Number 583 tells the story of Mary’s childhood in a Catholic orphanage and her legal struggle with the Ontario government as an adult for information about her birthmother.
Both are among best books I’ve read so far in ’06…and I’ve been known to easily plough through a book a day after a visit to the library!
Neither book is technically “Emergent” (much less “Christian”),in case you were curious, but both books did open my eyes to the injustices that happen every day in our world.

i would add another book also. forgive the title: “happily remarried.” the book isn’t like that. it is a realistic, honest, candid look at women starting over in a second (or later) marriage relationship. very down-to-earth and practical. not preachy at all. i think most emergent women, if they’ve experienced a divorce, would relate well to this book.
